Obituary for Martha Ann Brooke

Martha Ann Brooke, 88, passed away peacefully at her home on August 27, 2018 in Houston, Texas. Martha was born on April 27, 1930 to parents Cooper and Annie Hanna Conn in Kosciusko, MS. She moved to Houston as a young woman and proved her independence by supporting herself in the big city. Martha was a lifetime member of Laureate Zeta Alpha Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi and held many office titles throughout the years. She also enjoyed being a member of the Scarlet O' Hatters Red Hat Society, the Northshore Lioness Club, as well as numerous other community organizations. Martha retired from Uncle Ben’s/Mars Co., after many years of service. She then continued working at Cooper Industries assisting in the office, she was a secretary to Dr. Hugh W. Sanborn who was a chaplain at the University of Houston and author of several books of which Martha contributed as well, then as a clerical assistant to an attorney, and was also very involved in assisting at Holy Trinity United Methodist Church where she enjoyed spending time with her church family. Martha is preceded in death by her husband, Dale Norman Brooke; and son, Kenneth D. Brooke. She is lovingly survived by her sister, Dorothy Barnett; brother-in-law, Keith Brooke; niece, Brenda Coleman; nephews, Skipper Coleman and Steven Ward; as well as numerous extended family members and friends. A memorial service will be held at 4:00 p.m. Thursday, August 30, 2018 at Holy Trinity United Methodist Church 13207 Orleans St., Houston, Texas.
