John W. Emory, Jr. 89, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on November 3, 2020.

John was born in June of 1931 in Jackson, Mississippi, and resided there for his entire life. He is preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Barbara G. Emory, and his daughter, Paula Pafford. He is survived by his oldest son John W. Emory, III of Jackson, MS, Son Tommy Emory (Brenda) of Michigan, N. Dakota, and daughter Audrey Emory of Jackson, MS., 8 Grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict and was an active member of the 31st Dixie Division. He also was an active member of Antique Car Club for over 30 years and enjoyed his 1949 Hudson and 1949 Nash for many years. John was also a member of North Jackson Lions Club for over 30 years, attaining every title and received the Melvin Jones award as the highest honor one could receive. John was an active member of Central High School class of 1949 and was instrumental in leading annual picnics and Christmas parties with his lifelong friend Fred Sanders.

John spent 40 years in the life insurance business at all levels and his one foray into politics was running for Insurance Commissioner in 1976. John was a lifelong active member of Woodland Hills Baptist Church serving as Past Chairman of Deacons and an usher and loved serving his Lord and Savior faithfully every week.

John truly never met a stranger as he would talk with anyone and had an uncanny ability to recall names.

There will be a graveside service only due to Covid concerns and will be held at 1:30PM Thursday, November 5, 2020. Arrangements are being made through Culpepper Funeral Home of Canton, MS, with interment at Jessamine Cemetery in Ridgeland, MS.
