Obituary for John D Smallwood

Mr. John David Smallwood, Jr., age 84, died Saturday, December 26, 2020, at the Mississippi State Veterans Home in Kosciusko, MS. Graveside Services are scheduled for 1 PM Friday, January 1, 2021 at the Shiloh Independent Methodist Church Cemetery in Carmack, MS.

Born in Rankin County to the late J. David Smallwood, Sr., and Bertha Mae Smith, John was an aviation mechanic and inspector in the Jackson area with both Miller-Wills Aviation and Beech Aerospace. He was a graduate of Pearl High School and then joined and served in the U.S. Air Force and Navy for a total for twenty years.

In his free time, John loved hunting, working on antique tractors, and gardening which made living at his wife Margie’s birthplace in Carmack, MS a great enjoyment. Here he became an active member of Shiloh Independent Methodist Church. John was a member of the Masonic Lodge and the American Legion.

John is survived by his wife of 36 years, Marjorie Oakes Smallwood of Carmack, MS. He leaves his son, David Smallwood; his son, Martin Smallwood and his wife, Malou; and his daughter, Kelli Biskner and her husband, Dave. Margie’s daughters, Carol Hopson and her husband, Ben; Sandy; and Leanne Cochran and her husband, James, grandsons Raymond Biskner, Edward Smallwood, Jeremy Hall, and Daniel Fulton, granddaughters Casey McAlister and husband Stacy and Lindsey Sneed and her husband Justin, and great-grandchildren Kori, Hayden, and Benny McAlister.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Smallwood’s memory to Shiloh Independent Methodist Church in care of Brenda Rigby, 2465 Attala Road 3221, West, MS, 39192.
