Obituary for James F "Jim" Yarbrough

James F "Jim"  Yarbrough
James F. "Jim" Yarbrough, a 62 year member of New Hope Lutheran Church, served as Councilman, Sunday School Superintendent and Council President, transferred to the Church Triumphant at 10:00 am on Sunday, September 19, 2010. The Celebration of Life Service was held on Thursday, September 23, 2010 at 4:00 pm at New Hope Lutheran Church. Pallbearers will be Ollie Ray Ables, Gene Burden, Doug Burrell, Benton Nail, Ken Burrell, and David Truitt. Honorary pallbearers include Johnny Weeks, Jack Ables, Kelly Hutchison, Jimmy Hicks, Andy Coleman, David Dodd, and Eddie Ellis.

Jim was born in Chickasaw County January 30, 1923, and grew up in Calhoun City. He served 3 1/2 years in the South Pacific during World War II. Before being honorably discharged as a First Class Petty Officer, he was awarded the Purple Heart, Citizenship, and Good Conduct medals.

He graduated from Holmes Jr. College and later because of his innovative work in plastics, he was awarded a degree by the Society of Plastic Engineers. Jim was active in the plastic industry for 36 years and retires as plant Manager for Greif Brothers Corporation in 1990. He also served as a City Alderman for 12 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Boyd & Mamie Yarbrough; brothers, Rad & Milton Yarbrough; and son, James DuBard Yarbrough.

Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Kathryn DuBard Yarbrough; son, Boyd DuBard Yarbrough; grandson, Boyd DuBard Yarbrough, II; daughter-in-love, Diana Gardner; nephew, John Goolsby; nieces, Suzan Kirkland, Kathy Warren, Doug Strahan, and their families; many beloved cousins and a host of friends

Jim will be remembered for his quick wit, tall tales, and funny stories.
